Specialist Removals – What you need to know

Here at Trek Removals, we have years of experience moving specialist items for families, businesses and individuals within the London area.

We have moved everything from priceless antiques through to pianos over the years and as a result, there’s not really a lot we do not know about the area of specialist removals.  It is an art form in our opinion, and as we value happy clients we have literally spent years developing solutions to moving even the most awkward of items safely.

If you are searching out a removal company in London that can handle the ‘special ‘ requests then it may be useful to know what you should really be asking of the company that you choose.

The first piece of advice you may benefit from knowing is that you should not cut costs!  While it’s tempting to go for the cheapest, you have to ask yourself whether it’s worth trying to cut a few pounds here and there – after all, it could end up in disaster when it comes to moving your heirlooms.

Remember, quality of work and care is going to cost more but the results will ultimately be much better.

For example, if the man and van seems a tempting option to you, then you need to consider whether the temptation here is worth the risk.  How much experience do they have?  Do they have specialist packaging techniques?  Do they have specialist packing materials?

There are actually a host of professional packing materials that can be used to move plasma televisions right down to antique garden ornaments and let’s face it; there are times when bubble wrap alone just won’t do.

We may consider ourselves amongst the best removal companies around, but this blog isn’t just to promote us – it’s to show that we care for you, the customer.  Even if you don’t ask us to help you move, we’d still like to offer some advice to make sure you aren’t left with your personal belongings in ruins.

The best first step, with any removal company, is to try and get an idea as to how much experience they have.  While a man and van can be cheap, they will most likely not have the knowledge to deal with the specialist skills and packaging techniques necessary to make sure your valuables make it from their original location to their new destination in one piece.

The longer a removals company has been established, the more likely they are to be familiar with such specialist techniques, and the more customers they will have served.  It stands to reason that word of mouth is a valuable selling tool in this market, as happy customers will be likely to recommend the company they used to friends and colleagues also looking to move.

This level of customer service is what we at Trek Removals dedicate ourselves to by putting our years of experience into practice to employ all the specialist removal techniques we’ve mastered.  We’ll even deliver your piano safely for you.  We’ve done that.

Specialist Removals in London

Here at Trek Removals we spend a lot of our time moving things!  This may seem obvious of course but while we’ve spent years developing the best services when you move house, we have also developed a lot of specialist removal skills.

You may not even realise that we are also very experienced with moving the extra special things with our specialist removals service so we thought today’s blog could focus on just some of those things.

Art Work

We all know that art is most definitely a matter of taste but if it’s expensive to buy it’s also even more precious if you’re going to move it and often this can be a major concern for owners if they are planning on putting a new piece in a second home or indeed if they’re moving.

Often art itself increases in value year by year, so it becomes vital to make sure it is not only insured within your home, but that when it is moved, there’s a little bit more effort applied to packing it and looking after it.

As experienced packers, we tend to want to make sure that art work is handled with care, packed professionally (which goes a lot further than simply putting some bubble wrap over the corners) and we take our service levels very seriously.

We are for example, part of BAR (British Association of Removers) which is approved and monitored by the Office of Fair Trading.

By ensuring we adhere to its guidelines we know we can offer an above average service to clients who are moving specialist items.

Pianos

We know that pianos are phenomenally heavy and of course require care and skill to move.  We have moved uprights, under strung pianos, grand pianos, mini-grand pianos and electric pianos.  We know how to move them safely and are pleased to say that we’ve negotiated top floors and tight corners with success.

Plasma Screens

As the years have gone by the size of TVs has increased significantly, with things like Plasma Televisions being very big indeed!

But when you move it can be a real problem.

Not only is the packing method extremely important but it actually needs to be good enough to protect the television during transit as well.

We’ve got specialised packing covers for Plasma TVs, which are literally like a cushioned jacked for the entire television.

They are not used by lots of companies – who tend to stick to things like bubble wrap, but we’ve found them to be the very best thing to use.

So, the next time you’re thinking of moving something that is precious to you, whether it’s a piano or a very collectable piece of art, make sure you give us a try.

You’d be surprised at what we know about it! Contact Us for more information.

REMOVALS SERVICES IN LONDON: HORROR STORIES

Since this Trek Removals blog series on moving horror stories began, we have discovered some truly nightmare removal scenarios and stories that have been endured by many different hopeful home movers. The blogs have covered areas such as cowboy removal firms, the perils of operating a moving van yourself and what happens when household items/goods are not secured properly.

As a specialst London Removals Service, we pride ourselves in knowing how to treat clients and how to offer removals services that provide the very best service and costs for homeowners who want a specialist firm.

These blogs are a guide to moving home and moving house acting as cautionary tales of potential problems to avoid encountering and situations that may require circumventing. In today’s blog Trek Removals London,  takes you to a block of flats for this London removal horror story where a single lady planned to move floors from her ground floor flat to the 21st floor.

She said that it was due to the 21st floor flat being far more spacious and secure than her ground floor one that prompted her to move up in the world. Now for what should have been a simple floor to floor move, considering there was no requirement for moving vans, removal men, transportation or going outside at all, it all went wrong very quickly.

You see, to begin with, the lifts could only take so much weight inside which meant that the sofas and bed were out for the count. The Lady was forced to rope in some neighbours to help her carry up the two large sofas and double bed up the twenty-one flights of stairs. This was the first problem.

The next problem was that the sofas had scratched along many of the stairwell walls, which had just been decorated a month before. The Lady was asked to reimburse the cost of this damage by the building’s Head of Tenant’s Association. The overall cost of the damage to walls was relatively high for scratches and scrapes but she paid it.

After all the big items had been moved upstairs, the Lady thought she could finally relax by taking up the smaller items by lift. Everything was packed in boxes so she began filling the lift up with as many of them as possible. This was the third problem.

On her way up to the 21st floor she realised that she had overloaded the lift because it clanked to a stop. She pressed the emergency bell and waited for almost one hour for help to arrive. Thankfully, she was not claustrophobic.

By the time the lift was restored to working order the Lady decided to jump straight into her bed in the new flat on the 21st floor, leaving the rest of the boxes in her old ground floor flat to move the next day. We couldn’t blame her.

London has a number of high rise apartments and properties and moving in to one can require a lot of thought and attention (as well as strength) for anyone who needs a removals service, so this is probably one of the best reasons to consider using a removals company in London rather than try and do it all yourself.

Even a home move that is as seemingly simple as an inter-building removal can cause its own series of escalating dilemmas and crisis’. Trek Removals offers a fully comprehensive removal service to help you pack, move, transport and deliver your home furniture and household goods to where they need to be. It can be a home move from one side of the world to another, or just down the hall and up the stairs. Either way, we believe that these kinds of horror stories of home removals gone very awry can be avoided with the help of a professional moving company.
