Case Study

Julia was offered a temporary, job relocation and needed to move to another area of the UK for 12 months.  This was a great opportunity but Julia was worried about the costs associated with moving, but more importantly she was worried about how she would meet a mortgage payment and a rent payment each month.

She didn’t want to sell her property and so, she decided to let her two bedroom flat out to professionals.

While trying to find the perfect tenants, she was constantly asked for unfurnished and part-furnished options so she knew she was going to need to find somewhere to store everything if she was going to successfully let out her flat.

So, she decided she would let out her flat as a part-furnished concern and arranged for a packing service to pick up her bed, her sofa and some of the things she wanted to keep but couldn’t take with her to her new job.

So once packed, the items were then picked up and moved for her to secure storage for 12 months, giving Juila, the chance to have, a stress free work relocation without any worry about money.

Whatever reason you may have for storage, Trek Removals can help you, pack the items for storage up for you and collect them in a fuss free manner, without paying through the nose.

The best places in the UK to move to

So you’re thinking about moving but you’re not sure where to?

As far as we’re concerned at Trek Removals, the world is your oyster. We just want to help you get there. But if we at a push to recommend some of the best places in the UK as moving destinations then we’d list the following:

5.  Birmingham (Central)

People may be surprised at this one but at present Birmingham’s city centre is incredibly cheap to buy a property in, which means it could prove a wise investment for the discerning house-buyer and flat-hunters.

4. Oxford

Okay, so Oxford isn’t exactly cheap in comparison to Birmingham but this is one of the few cities in the entire country that seems to remain impervious to the economic downturn. Property market and employment is still extraordinarily healthy.  Plus, it’s such a lovely place to visit, who wouldn’t want to live there?

3. Milton Keynes

Known by some as London’s overspill town, this is an area with direct links to the country’s capital without all the hustle, bustle and noise. Securing property here is a smart investment if you are looking for a close proximity town to the city without having to pay big city prices.

2. Exeter

Exeter is on the M5 and has its own airport. Not only does it o have one the UK’s most well-regarded universities it’s rugby team is in the premiership! In other words it’s in a prime-location where property is extremely reasonable. Exeter is just one of those cities that you have to live in at some point in your life.

1. Kent

Like Oxford it’s a place that oozes class and prestige. Its transport links are top trumps all around with easy access to Central London. Family houses can still be purchased around there for roughly £200,000, which considering the quality of the area itself is a pretty exciting opportunity for any home-movers-and-shakers. Kent is truly a beautiful place to live and work.

Of course it all depends on your own personal preferences and reasons for moving, but this list is what we feel are the best options for those going in for the home relocations and domestic removals.  Wherever you need to get to you can be sure that we’ll be able to get you there, efficiently and with a minimum of hassle.

Did you know that moving house is stressful?

Okay, a rather obvious question with a pretty obvious answer, but did you know that moving house is considered to be one of the most stress inducing experiences you may ever have to deal with?

Buying or selling a house can be a great experience and offer a little bit of excitement to our lives, but once the valuations are done and you’ve sorted all the finances out, the reality kicks in…you’re going to have to move the entire contents of your house!  This is rather daunting and surprisingly takes a while to hit us.

So, if you’ve suddenly realised that you really are moving, it’s time to take stock, try not to panic and get organised.

First of all, try to find a reputable removal firm once you’ve got your moving date.  This is extremely important.  And remember don’t look for the cheapest removal firm.  Try and find a company with experience and most importantly a track record.

Once you’ve done this, it’s time to start thinking about the packing.  As we’ve said in previous blogs, make sure that you pack what you don’t need and are not going to need first.  Therefore, don’t pack your favourite jumper!

And one good tip is to have a good clear out.  When you move you need to be bit brutal so it’s always worth throwing stuff out or even better, if you can make  a few pounds by selling your unwanted items, then get on to it.

Of course you should try and manage your stress as well.  Even though you may have organised everything you will still probably feel a bit of stress, so try and keep it to a minimum if you can.  A good tip here is to make sure you don’t try and fit too much in too quickly.

If you need to take time off work, see if you can book some holiday rather than a couple of days, because this will make the whole process a lot smoother for you and give you some time to recover.

If the in-laws are happy to look after the children for a couple of days then let them.  The kids will love some time being spoiled and it will allow you the space and time to get on with it, knowing that the kids are in safe hands.

Above all, don’t worry.  While moving is the most stressful thing you can do, the rewards will be the best.

Moving House. Did you forget the cat or dog?

In a nation where dogs and cats are popular in such a way that we’re considered one of the biggest animal lovers in the world, it’s actually surprisingly easy to forget about them during a move.

We’re not suggesting that any of us would leave our beloved pets behind during a move of course, but we don’t often always think about the stress that moving causes them.

So what’s the best thing to do if you’ve got a pet and want to make things a bit easier for them?

The first thing to do is to look at the property you’re moving to and assess how good it’s going to be for your dog.  Is the fencing secure?  You don’t want the dog to get out in an area he or she is not familiar with.  So, taking care of these checks early on will mean the dog’s safe and you won’t have to worry about losing him.

Another thing to check for is if the area you are moving in to has issues with things like ticks or heartworm.  Remember some areas are more prone to this so it’s worth checking it out.

Try and get the dog (or cat) registered at the vets close to your new home, so should anything arise you will be able to deal with it.

If you’re taking a feline friend with you to your new home, then decide upfront where you’re going to keep him or her and tell the family to stay out of the room.  The cat will be a little nervous and again you don’t want to risk them escaping in to an area that is unfamiliar.

Try also taking some water from the old house with you.  Believe it or not, dogs get used to the water they drink and when a new drinking water is suddenly on offer they may not drink, which might lead to dehydration.

One other thing to remember with dogs and this is often forgotten.  Dogs get used to their own smells, so try and ensure you take something familiar from home with you and have it to hand.  This will allow your dog to sense something familiar.

If you can, it may even be worth investing in some kind of pen initially so they dog will feel secure, even though the surroundings are new.

A good way to get them used to this is put them in the pen periodically before you move.   They will eventually associate the space as a safe one, so when you eventually move to your new home, putting them in the pen will automatically make them feel more confident and at ease!

For your feline friend, bear in mind that you will need to give them time to adjust to their new home.  Therefore it is advisable not to let them out for at least a couple of weeks. This will allow them to get used to the new smells and scents and find their way home more easily.

Whether you’ve got a cat or dog, ensure you update their collar tags with a contact number.  However, never put your pet’s name on the tag so anyone finding them doesn’t feel an urge to adopt them.  This is always easier if you know the pet’s name.  Without it, it’s a lot more difficult!

Good luck and try not to stress and if you want advice on removals then you can always contact us!

Cleaning your house or office after a removal

When it comes to removals in London, we have helped a number of people and businesses and home owners alleviate the stress of moving from one place to another.

However, there is one part of the whole experience which often gets overlooked – even though it can cause a problem when you move from or to anywhere.  Cleaning!

Let’s face it, it’s no one’s favourite job and can take a lot of time, especially if it needs to be done to a high standard.  And do you really want the guy that’s responsible for your website spending time cleaning skirting boards and desks?  This is particularly important when you consider how much his hourly rate might be, meaning his efforts are better placed elsewhere.

Countless times businesses have moved in to sparkling new offices, only to find that there isn’t much of a shine on anything, just a lot of builder’s dust to ruin clothes, computer and IT equipment and provide staff with what is generally an unpleasant experience.

Needless to say this has serious implications on costs as well, because the longer your staff are cleaning and tidying up, the less time they’re spending on what’s important…your clients and business.

And if you’re a homeowner, you probably have better things to do than clean the house you’ve just left.  After all, you’ll be pretty preoccupied with the boxes at the other end of the move!

So, in a change to our normal blogging antics, we thought we would let you know a bit about the cleaning service we offer.

It isn’t completely new, but it is a bespoke service we offer to our clients as we know that it is not a lot of fun after you’ve spent all of your energy organising a move.

The cleaning service is highly competitive and is designed to give your home or office a thorough clean so you can worry about more important things.

Our cleaning team are highly experienced, thorough and can make a room look and smell fresh with ease.

We provide all the best cleaning materials and equipment required and it can be booked as part of your removal.

So if you’re not relishing the thought of cleaning in the middle of your move – whether that’s from an office in London to er..another office in London or if you’re worried about keeping the kids occupied during house move, then contact us to see how we can help you.

We offer a professional removal and can easily add our cleaning service for you – yet again taking some of the stress and strain away from you.

The team at Trek!

Specialist Removals – What you need to know

Here at Trek Removals, we have years of experience moving specialist items for families, businesses and individuals within the London area.

We have moved everything from priceless antiques through to pianos over the years and as a result, there’s not really a lot we do not know about the area of specialist removals.  It is an art form in our opinion, and as we value happy clients we have literally spent years developing solutions to moving even the most awkward of items safely.

If you are searching out a removal company in London that can handle the ‘special ‘ requests then it may be useful to know what you should really be asking of the company that you choose.

The first piece of advice you may benefit from knowing is that you should not cut costs!  While it’s tempting to go for the cheapest, you have to ask yourself whether it’s worth trying to cut a few pounds here and there – after all, it could end up in disaster when it comes to moving your heirlooms.

Remember, quality of work and care is going to cost more but the results will ultimately be much better.

For example, if the man and van seems a tempting option to you, then you need to consider whether the temptation here is worth the risk.  How much experience do they have?  Do they have specialist packaging techniques?  Do they have specialist packing materials?

There are actually a host of professional packing materials that can be used to move plasma televisions right down to antique garden ornaments and let’s face it; there are times when bubble wrap alone just won’t do.

We may consider ourselves amongst the best removal companies around, but this blog isn’t just to promote us – it’s to show that we care for you, the customer.  Even if you don’t ask us to help you move, we’d still like to offer some advice to make sure you aren’t left with your personal belongings in ruins.

The best first step, with any removal company, is to try and get an idea as to how much experience they have.  While a man and van can be cheap, they will most likely not have the knowledge to deal with the specialist skills and packaging techniques necessary to make sure your valuables make it from their original location to their new destination in one piece.

The longer a removals company has been established, the more likely they are to be familiar with such specialist techniques, and the more customers they will have served.  It stands to reason that word of mouth is a valuable selling tool in this market, as happy customers will be likely to recommend the company they used to friends and colleagues also looking to move.

This level of customer service is what we at Trek Removals dedicate ourselves to by putting our years of experience into practice to employ all the specialist removal techniques we’ve mastered.  We’ll even deliver your piano safely for you.  We’ve done that.
